All expressions of individualism have been suppressed in his world. In pursuit of his quest for knowledge, Equality struggles to answer the questions that burn within him.
Who needs philosophy? Ayn Rand’s answer: Everyone. This collection of essays was the last work planned by Ayn Rand before her death in In it, she summarizes her view of philosophy and deals with a broad spectrum of topics. According to Ayn Rand, the choice we make is not whether to have a philosophy, but which one to have: a rational, conscious, and therefore practical one, or a contradictory, unidentified, and ultimately lethal one.
Anarchism has been both a vision of a peaceful, cooperative society — and an ideology of revolutionary terror. Since the term itself — anarchism — is a negation, there is a great deal of disagreement on what the positive alternative would look like. The black flag comes in many colors. This brilliantly conceived book is based on a lecture course given by Dr. Leonard Peikoff in entitled, “The Philosophy of Objectivism”.
The lectures were attended by Ayn Rand, who helped prepare them and who also joined Peikoff in answering questions. As entertaining as it is informative, The New Right is required listening for every American across the spectrum who would like to learn more about the past, present and future of our divided political culture.
Now, celebrity ghostwriter Michael Malice pulls back the curtain to expose the life story of the “Incarnation of Love and Morality”. Taken directly from books spirited out of Pyongyang, Dear Reader is a carefully reconstructed first-person account of the man behind the mythology. Murray Rothbard was known as the state’s greatest living enemy, and this audiobook is his most powerful statement on the topic. He explains what a state is and what it is not.
He shows how it is an institution that violates all that we hold as honest and moral, and how it operates under a false cover. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see.
It is base and evil. Human Action is the most important book on political economy you will ever own. It was and remains the most comprehensive, systematic, forthright, and powerful defense of the economics of liberty ever written. This is the Scholar’s Edition: accept no substitute.
You will treasure this volume. The Scholar’s Edition is the original, unaltered treatise originally published in that shaped a generation of Austrians and made possible the intellectual movement that is leading the global charge for free markets. This classic work of political theory and practice offers an account of the modern Machiavellians, a remarkable group who have been influential in Europe and practically unknown in the United States.
Burnham contends that the writings of these men hold the key both to the truth about politics and to the preservation of political liberty. Murray N. Rothbard’s great treatise, Man, Economy, and State , and its complementary text, Power and Market , are here combined into a single audiobook edition as they were written to be.
It provides a sweeping presentation of Austrian economic theory, a reconstruction of many aspects of that theory, a rigorous criticism of alternative schools, and an inspiring look at a science of liberty that concerns nearly everything and should concern everyone. A vast canvas of camps, prisons, transit centres and secret police, of informers and spies and interrogators but also of everyday heroism, The Gulag Archipelago is Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s grand masterwork.
Based on the testimony of some survivors, and on the recollection of Solzhenitsyn’s own 11 years in labour camps and exile, it chronicles the story of those at the heart of the Soviet Union who opposed Stalin, and for whom the key to survival lay not in hope but in despair. In 12 Rules for Life , acclaimed public thinker and clinical psychologist Jordan B. Peterson offered an antidote to the chaos in our lives: eternal truths applied to modern anxieties.
His insights have helped millions of people and resonated powerfully around the world. Now in this long-awaited sequel, Peterson goes further, showing that part of life’s meaning comes from reaching out into the domain beyond what we know and adapting to an ever-transforming world.
Ethan Hawley has lost the spirit of his wealthy forebears, a long line of proud New England sea captains and Pilgrims. Scarred by failure, Ethan works as a grocery clerk in a store his family once owned. But his wife is restless and his teenage children hungry for the material comforts he cannot provide. Then a series of unusual events reignites Ethan’s ambition, and he is pitched on to a bold course, where all scruples are put aside.
This sweeping book is a systematic treatment of the historic transformation of the West from limited monarchy to unlimited democracy. Revisionist in nature, it reaches the conclusion that monarchy, with all its failings, is a lesser evil than mass democracy but outlines deficiencies in both as systems of guarding liberty.
In the s and early ’70s, the most prominent, vocal cultural movement was the New Left: a movement that condemned America and everything it stood for: individualism, material wealth, science, technology, capitalism. She has a subtle and ingenious mind and the capacity of writing brilliantly, beautifully, bitterly. A sublime story, with characters of depth and greatly nuanced.
A book with relationships written with such depth that, unsurprisingly, feminists over the last decades have been unable to either grasp the complexities or understand the depth of the relationships between any of the major characters and instead have maligned and slandered the story and the writer, a strong intelligent and empowered woman.
I imagine she neither wanted nor needed their brand of acceptance. Good book in general. Excellent writing and easy reading but The author took a single concept of not giving a fxck, milking it dry. Huxley would have cherished the masses control with the main aim of happiness or power and control. If you like reading you might be able to pallet this novel with a strong slant towards promiscuity. Long love the strong in the name of freedom I personally value the idea of individuality.
Warning, this is an abridged version, the unabridged is 43 hrs, this is only eight hours. About 4 years ago a friend told me to read this book – going to school and holding down a full time job – this wasn’t possible – then I found Audibles – I loved this book – wanted more – it was such an insight I want the next book, next books, I want to follow them through life I was asleep at the switch!!
I swore I would never buy another abridged title and I was suckered in by the sale. I wasn’t paying attention. No wonder I hated it. And what a waste of a sale credit!!!!!! Two stars overall because it is abridged–and abridgements are an abomination. Three stars for the story–one extra for what it could have been Five stars for Edward Hermann because he is always five star.
What made the experience of listening to The Fountainhead the most enjoyable? This book was narrated very well, with excellent clarity.
The tone and pitch of his voice was perfect for the story. He really captured the essence of all the characters so well that I could not only picture what they looked like, but felt their attitude as well. If you could take any character from The Fountainhead out to dinner, who would it be and why? None of them, they are all completely dysfunctional. Any additional comments? I’ve been trying to read finish this book for years. Thanks to Audible, I’ve finally done it.
